St Kitts and Nevis Sailing Association
Our Olympic Ambitions
A Partnership with the St Kitts and Nevis National Olympic Committee
SKNSA has been a member and worked closely with the SKNOC since 2016.
NOC supports our overall plan along our Olympic Pathway.
This plan has four key elements:
Identifying elite talent
Developing elite talent
Competing elite talent internationally and domestically
Proving a clear path to Olympic participation
Details of the agreed elements are set out below:
-
Identifying Sailing Talent
· Evaluating sailors in existing youth and adult sail programs.
· Outreach work to encourage wider participation.
· Aquatics Camp and Outreach days on each island aimed at new talent
· Improved advertising and publicity
· Promoting National Team sailors as role models.
-
Competitions to Select National Team
Joint SKN Regattas to be held on both islands in September and December 2021. These will be continued through 2022.
As of end September 2021 we have already held two Regattas, the National Dinghy Championships and Bart’s Bash. The latter was an international benchmarking event providing valuable comparative performance data on our sailors.
-
Training Camps for National Team Sailors
A number of elite sailor training sessions are planned and budgeted for in 2021. The budget allows for a number of elite sailors to take part and provides for transport of sailors between the islands. We plan for these training camps to commence in October.
-
Overseas / International competitions and training for instructors and National Team sailors.
We were planning to take a group of elite sailors to international competition on Antigua. However as a result of COVID Antigua have now It now looks as if Antigua will not be possible. They have cancelled their international competitive event – and substituted Bart’s Bash (which you will see we took part in also.) Bart’s Bash was an international benchmarking sailing event that we took part in on September 12. We are holding the budget allocation as we hope to now take part in the international regatta at St Martin end of October. If this is not possible we will come forward with reserve items as we discussed with the NOC earlier this year.
